What is a Parakite?
A Parakite is a compact paraglider concept designed for agile flying such as speedflying, dune soaring and hike-and-fly. Compared with a classic paraglider, it normally focuses more strongly on compact packing, direct handling and a specific use case. The exact suitability always depends on the manufacturer data, pilot weight and experience.
Parakite or paraglider: what is the difference?
A conventional paraglider is usually selected for training, thermal flying, cross-country or general free flight. A Parakite is selected for a more specific combination of compactness, agility and intended use. A Parakite is not automatically a beginner wing and is not automatically approved for powered flight. Check the product data and intended certification before choosing.
How to choose the right Parakite
- Define the main use: speedflying, hike-and-fly, dune soaring or a powered setup.
- Calculate the real take-off weight, including pilot, clothing, harness, reserve, helmet and equipment.
- Compare the manufacturer’s size range, certification, handling and packing requirements.
- Choose the harness separately and verify fit, reserve integration, riser compatibility and the intended setup.
Important: The first product section contains Parakite wings. The second section contains compatible harnesses only. Harnesses are not counted as Parakites.
