LAUNCH PHASE
The APP profile (Shark-Nose profile), combined with lighter materials, helps the glider to open easily and in a balanced manner. The glider rises gently and in a controlled manner over the pilot’s head, without any tendency to overshoot or lift the pilot off the ground when braked over the head.
LANDING
Easy, predictable approach and flare right to a standstill.
Thermal flying
In thermals, the Nestra Light can be easily brought into a constant bank angle and, once centred, requires only a few control inputs, resulting in an outstanding rate of climb that gets you into the best position in no time.
PERFORMANCE
The best glide performance is achieved at 1/3 speed bar speed. When using the C-controls and pressing the speed bar, you’ll gain a new level of confidence when moving on to the next thermal.
PILOT FEEDBACK

CONSTRUCTION
In keeping with APCO’s legendary tradition of durability – the upper surface is made from APCO’s double-siliconised fabric. The underside and internal components are made from lightweight materials to save weight without compromising durability. Nestra Light
The Nestra Light is aimed at pilots who log more than 50 flying hours per year or who wish to move up from a lower category without having to sacrifice too much safety compared to the higher classes.
SUITABILITY OVERVIEW
My first flight was on a prototype of the Apco Nestra at the Dead Sea in Israel.
I even flew slightly overloaded, and yet the glider’s
performance was impressive. The Nestra flew remarkably dynamically and efficiently, giving me
the feeling of being under a higher-rated glider.
The handling is absolutely precise and it feels like a razor’s edge in the air.
I’ve flown a number of Category C and even D gliders, and I felt that the Nestra was actually on a par with them in terms of performance. I’m used to hanging from a few lines on my Enzo, but seeing something similar on an EN-B is revolutionary.

DESIGN
Apco Nestra Light – True 2.5-liner
The Nestra Light is the forerunner of the new generation of EN-B gliders and features a hybrid 3/2-line construction.
The middle two-thirds of the glider have three lines.
The final third of the glider is a two-liner.
If you look closely, you’ll notice a small but crucial difference between the Nestra Light and the other 2.5-liners on the market. The Nestra Light is unique in that it has only three attachment points in the centre and only two attachment points in the final third of the wing.
Unlike the Nestra Light, all other 2.5-liner gliders (Categories B and C) have an additional attachment point either in the area of the three lines that form a D-line, and/or an additional attachment point in the area of the two lines that form a C-line. Other gliders may be described as 2.5-line gliders, but in reality they are not – the term ‘hybrid’ is therefore often used.
All the lower lines on the Nestra Light are made from unsheathed aramid/Kevlar.
Regular trimming (adding or removing loops) is not required, as Kevlar lines retain their length throughout their entire service life. The lines are attached to the risers using Apco’s unique V-links, which allow for perfect integration.
The Nestra Light has a dramatically low line length (just 215m in size M), which is less than that of most EN-C 2 lines on the market – this is down to the TRUE 2.5 line layout, which Apco introduced for the first time on the Nestra Light!
Durable and lightweight
As the name suggests, the Nestra Light is a lightweight design.
27 [g] fabric has been used for the base and all secondary ribs.
The upper surface is split: standard Apco 40 [g] durable double-siliconised fabric on the leading edge, with the remainder being 33 [g/m²] for additional weight savings.
No compromises have been made on Apco’s legendary durability, and the result is the perfect balance between weight and durability!

First-class handling
Enjoy direct, precise control and world-class Apco refinement in a beautifully balanced glider.
Thanks to the Dyneema brakes, the handling is direct and precise, with light, linear brake pressure right up to the 90 per cent mark, where it indicates the stall point.
The risers are a true masterpiece. Fitted with C-control handles operated exclusively via ball-bearing pulleys, control is effortless. For pilots moving up from a lower category, it’s very comfortable and quick to learn.
The connection between the lines and the risers is made via Apco’s unique V-Links. They are light and strong, and look really cool too.

The wing is made from tear-resistant ripstop nylon fabric, which has been given a PU coating and then siliconised to give the fabric a high level of resistance to the elements. Different fabrics are used for the upper and lower canopies and the ribs due to their differing functions.
The lines are made from uncoated Superaramid with protection against UV radiation, wear and abrasion. The lower section of the brake lines is made from Dyneema due to its superior mechanical properties. The V-links, which attach the lines to the risers, are made of aluminium.
